The Bee Sting
In 1959 Richard Rogers wrote a beautiful song entitled: “My Favorite Things.” It goes:
“When the dog bites, when the bee stings, when I’m feeling sad, I simply remember my favorite things and then I don’t feel so bad.”

Cancer stings you like you’ve never been stung in your life. But contrary to familiar bee sting remedies, it’s not something that you can just put a Band-Aid on, rub an ice cube on, or make a tobacco paste to put on it and be cured. One thing that’s for sure is that the sting doesn’t go away immediately. Unfortunately, the treatments are a necessary evil. And, in cancer treatment, just like with the treating of a bee sting, you will feel really bad before you start to feel better.
The emotional impact of Breast Cancer can fill you with a number of crazy emotions. Shocked. Scared. Angry. Disappointed. Numb. Irate. Crushed. Brokenhearted. Furious. Overwhelmed.
None of us anticipates the sting of the “cancer bee.” But when it catches you off guard, you have to stand up to it, face it and say, “I’m willing to do whatever it takes to alleviate the sting.” You absolutely need to have a survivor’s attitude and spirit. You must be committed to running the course. It will take plenty of hard work and a few tearful moments. It might even take your life. Just be prepared to put up a Muhammad Ali fight. “Float like a Butterfly and sting like a Bee”. When it’s all said and done, you’ll be sitting on a tropical island in Dubai, sipping tea with the honey you’ve squeezed from that cancer bee. The sting will finally be gone…you will be cancer free!
